Board of Directors

The Board of Directors at Veitur are Guðrún Erla Jónsdóttir chairman, Ágúst Þorbjörnsson, Ásgeir Westergren, Guðni Axelsson og Hera Grímsdóttir. Alternates are Bára Jónsdóttir and Reynir Guðjónsson.

Guðrún Erla

Guðrún Erla Jónsdóttir

Guðrún Erla Jónsdóttir Policy Director, completed a B.Sc.degree in Tourism and Business Administration at the University of Iceland in 2004 via San Diego State University. She took a postgraduate degree at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense and completed an M.Sc. in Marketing and International Business at the University of Iceland in 2006. Guðrún Erla worked as an officer manager at Orkuveita Húsavíkur until 2008 and then as a managing director of the company until she joined Reykjavik Energy in 2015.

Ágúst Þorbjörnsson

Ágúst Þorbjörnsson, business advisor completed a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe in Germany in 1993 and is currently pursuing a doctoral program at the University of Reykjavik.

Bára Jónsdóttir

Bára Jónsdóttir

Bára Jónsdóttir, lawyer at Reykjavik Energy, graduated in Law (mag.jur.) from the University of Iceland in 2012 and obtained lawyer certification in 2013. She worked for the winding-up committee of the Frjálsi investment bank and SPRON from her graduation until 2014. She then started working for the Central Bank of Iceland until she joined Reykjavik Energy in 2015. Bára also holds a seat on the board of the national union of lawyers (Stéttarfélag lögfræðinga).

Ásgeir Westergren

Ásgeir Westergren

Ásgeir Westergren was Head of Risk Management at the City of Reykjavík before joining Orkuveita Reykjavíkur's Finance Department in 2015. He holds an M.Sc. degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on investment management and risk management from Reykjavík University. At Orkuveita Reykjavíkur, Ásgeir has worked for most of his time as Head of Risk Management, but now works on issues related to the financing of Orkuveita Reykjavíkur and its subsidiaries, relations with investors and financial analysis.

Guðni Axelsson

Guðni Axelsson

Guðni Axelsson is an expert in reservoir engineering of geothermal systems and Director of training and research at Iceland GeoSurvey (ÍSOR). He holds a PhD in geophysics from Oregon State University from 1985. Since then Guðni has been involved in reservoir engineering studies in Iceland and around the world, focusing on modelling, monitoring, management of long-term utilization and sustainability. Guðni has taught at the UNU Geothermal Training Programme in Reykjavik for a long time. He is also an adjunct professor at the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences of the University of Iceland as well as teaching at Reykjavík University.

Hera Grímsdóttir

Hera Grímsdóttir, Executive Director of Research and Innovation at OR, has a master's degree in civil engineering as well as an MBA degree from Reykjavík University. Since 2018, she has been the chair of the Applied Engineering department at Reykjavík University but was previously the director of the construction department at the university's Faculty of Technology and Engineering. She has extensive experience in management and project management in complex projects, but she previously worked for the engineering firm EFLA, first in the energy department and later in the construction department. In the years 2011-2015, she managed international high-tech projects at the prosthetic manufacturer Össur. Hera has also taught e.g. project management and statistics at RU and at the Open University and sits on the professional council of the Rannís Technology Development Fund.

Reynir Guðjónsson

Reynir Guðjónsson

Reynir Guðjónsson is the Safety Manager at OR. He has extensive experience in that field. He worked as a Fire Fighter and EMT for the Reykjavik Municipal Fire Department for nine years, was a Safety Officer at Rio Tinto-Alcan for eight years and as the Quality Manager there for two years. He also worked as Safety Officer at VÍS for two years.
